Musical Theatre
A Note on Reading Lyric Samples:
Obviously, musical theatre lyrics are intended to be sung, not simply read. The effect is different, and a lyric can feel wrong or stilted to a reader, when it wouldn't feel that way to the listener, hearing the music intended to bring it to life. Stay tuned for some recordings with real, live singers and a piano sometime in early 2027.
While I admire the work of those who use contemporary musical and lyrical styles and genres to dramatize period subjects, I haven't felt called to work in that direction on any project to date. So my characters tend to sing and speak in my best version of their own vernacular, in the time where they pretend to live.
